A516 Grade 55 is a carbon-manganese-silicon pressure vessel steel plate designed for moderate- and lower-temperature service in boilers, welded pressure vessels, and industrial process equipment. The grade offers reliable notch toughness, stable fabrication performance, and consistent strength across different thickness ranges. It is commonly used in petrochemical, power generation, and general industrial pressure systems requiring dependable plate quality and good weldability.
Chemical Composition (ASTM A516/A516M)
Carbon: ≤ 0.21% Manganese: 0.60–0.90% Silicon: 0.15–0.40% Phosphorus: ≤ 0.035% Sulfur: ≤ 0.035%
The carbon-manganese-silicon alloy system provides balanced strength, toughness, and weldability for pressure vessel fabrication.
Mechanical Properties Tensile Strength: 380–515 MPa Yield Strength: ≥ 205 MPa Elongation: ≥ 23% (200 mm gauge length) ≥ 27% (50 mm gauge length)
These values support safe operation in moderate- and lower-temperature pressure systems.
